Prerequisite: Student has performed in an ensemble (Jazz, Concert or Orchestral) the previous school year. *Or with teacher approval.
Description: This course is a study of instrumental techniques as they relate to instrumental and contemporary jazz literature. Through ensemble rehearsal, individual practice, and a variety of performance opportunities, the student will gain an understanding and appreciation for this art form. Emphasis will be placed on not just performance technique, but also rudimentary improvisational skills, musicianship, and a sense of personal accountability. This ensemble is a skilled effort in which each student is expected to show technical and musical growth throughout this course. Performances include: Winter and Spring concerts in the OHS Theater, CMEA adjudicated festival, OUSD Jazz Festival, and Music in the Parks.
**Attendance at evening concerts, community events and rehearsals will be required as scheduled. This course may be repeated for credit.
