AVID 2011 Seniors Outpace National Statistics in Graduation Rates, AP®/IB® Test-Taking Numbers, and Four-Year College Entrance Requirements
SAN DIEGO – A record 27,891 AVID seniors participated in AVID’s annual data collection reporting details about their demographics and academic achievements. Hispanic/Latino students led the reporting with 55 percent; 17 percent of the students were African American and 15 percent of the students were white. A total of 69 percent of the students were eligible for free or reduced lunch.
Of the 2011 AVID seniors reporting their information, 98.8 percent graduated from high school with 91 percent planning to attend a postsecondary institution - 58 percent to four-year institutions and 33 percent to two-year institutions.
Additionally, 72 percent of the seniors reported taking at least one course of rigor, like AP® or IB®, with 60 percent taking the corresponding exam.
2011 AVID seniors also reported completing four-year college entrance requirements at a rate more than two times their peers. Presented by ethnicity in the chart, AVID seniors more than tripled the national statistic in three of five ethnic groups.
